Everything You Need To Know About Dental Implants

Why Choose Dental Implants? – Tooth Replacement Options

Despite our best efforts, teeth do not always last forever. And while we at Beyond Dental believe in preventative care, we also know there are circumstances that lead to the need for Dental Implants. Developed with improved functionality compared to other teeth replacement options, the implant procedure has gained credit as one of the best substitutes for natural teeth.

Dental Implants at Beyond Dental

Made from titanium, Dental Implants are tooth-like structures that are custom made for your mouth and surgically implanted into your jawbone. At our Cranbourne practice, you can choose to have individual teeth or Bridges implanted. Dental Implants provide stability for our patients, helping them with biting pressure as well as reducing irritation and oral sores generally experienced by Denture wearers.

5 other benefits of Dental Implants:

  • They have a natural appearance
  • They are fixed
  • They do not inconvenience your lifestyle
  • They are comfortable
  • Improved speech

There are few limitations when it comes to dental implants as the procedure allows for you replace one or multiple teeth.

What does the Dental Implant procedure entail?

Our experienced team suggests at least three consultations before the implants are permanently fitted.

For your understanding, we have divided the procedure into three stages:

Stage 1: Every patient is different and we take care in developing a personalised plan for all our patients. In the planning stage, we will go through your medical and oral history to develop an understanding of your dental concerns. X-rays and moulds of your mouth will be done at this stage.

Stage 2: It is here where a small post which acts as a root will be surgically implanted into the socket of the missing tooth while you are placed under local anaesthesia. Once the implant is placed, it is left to heal. The healing time varies from one patient to the next but it is generally about 3-6 months as the implant needs time to fuse with the jawbone.

Stage 3: When the healing period is complete, an abutment is placed onto the implant to secure the replacement tooth, or crown in place. The colour of your new tooth can be made to match your natural teeth.
